Toshiba has Launched the Smallest HD Camera Ever

So you think the current crop of HD camcorders are pretty small? Not necessarily. Toshiba has launched the world’s smallest 3CCD camera head, the IK-HD1. This cube-shaped camera can deliver 1920×1080 pixel vdeo at 30 FPS, all from its 1.6 inch body and super featherlight 65 grams.

You can control the settings using controller box, which outputs the video via a choice of connections, such as digital HD-SDI, analog RGB, and component. There is an RS 232C serial interface and the option to adjust white balance manually or automatically.

The IK-HD1 is not set to compete with the consumer HD cameras from the likes of Sony or Panasonic, and it won’t be on sale for regular consumers. Toshiba states that it will be ideal for uses in homeland security, TV broadcasts and scientific imaging purposes.

Personally, I think it will serve extremely well as a surveillance camera used by detectives or police.
